Improving AssessmentPEP will support the Ministry of Education and Science in its improvement s to students assessment within primary education . PEP will develop a school-based formative assessment system that: (a) provides a practical classroom tool for teachers (b) is compatible with the National Assessment of Students’ Achievement Specific activities in this component include: 1. Developing national standards for school-based assessment including a code of ethics in assessment Standards have to be set at a state level. An important component of these standards will be developing a code of ethics in assessment at the school level. This will foster a culture of validity, objectivity and fairness in assessing student’s performance. Assessment standards and the Code of Ethics in assessment will also help parents to understand the assessment practice and the assessment criteria, and interpret the success level of their children. Misunderstandings and doubts concerning the reliability and fairness of assessment will be avoided. 2. Professional training of teachers and school administrators All teachers and school administrators will be trained on school-based assessment standards. In addition, grade 6-9 teachers will be trained in test development, authentic assessment instruments preparation, interpreting and using national and international assessment results. In order to cover a broad range of assessment topics and train all the teachers during the project life, PEP will provide a combination of regional and school-based training in order to transfer knowledge and skills to the teachers. 3. Create and adapt paper and digital learning resources to support continuous learning Teachers that show creativity in developing and using a range of assessment approaches and instruments will be selected as leaders and will work with PEP to develop paper and digital learning resources, training manuals and assessment instruments which will be used in the school-based training and day-to-day assessment practice. The same team will develop, collect and improve a pool of test items from across the curriculum for teachers to use in test construction. A bank of assessment instruments will be also developed.
