PEP e-bulletins to support professional development and encourage communication

During the last few months PEP produced a new communication tool to enhance collaboration between PEP and teachers from Macedonia primary schools. The first e-bulletin was issued in September 2008 and was tailored to PEP learning facilitators. The one-page bulletin’s structure is in three main parts:
  • news about recent & relevant activities,
  • items of news and information to broaden the awareness of readers and
  • an invitation to respond to a particular challenge, question opportunity etc..
Other e-bulletins have a similar structure but differ with their designs and component colour. Positive responses results have resulted from the last two e-bulletins by the Assessment and ICT components. For example, Nikoletka Panova, a teacher of younger grades, replied to PEP’s assessment e-bulletin that, although she didn’t attend the PEP assessment workshops, which were for subject teachers, she had adapted the PEP assessment standards for the students in lower grades. “I inform the parents that when assessing the students, I count on their minimum, average and high standards levels of achievement in understanding the goals of the lessons”, said Nikoletka. “Also, when we were working on planning the professional development on a school level, we incorporate the assessment criteria, so we could achieve the fair, objective and transparent assessment.”In the ICT e-bulletin, PEP invited all interested teachers to apply for part-time training facilitator positions.  In order to support the Government’s program ‘computer for every child’, PEP will organize trainings for all teachers in Macedonia. Teachers were invited to send a resume resulting in a total of 256 resumes being submitted. That is an evidence plus that the PEP publicity materials as well the programs within PEP components are the real refreshment and a new motivation for the teachers, which will hopefully accelerate the success in the educational reform and will impact on the quality in education.
