ICT in Education

This components aims to:

  1. increase the use of ICTs, across the curriculum, in primary schools and
  2. introduce effective and educationally-useful ways of using ICTs

In order to help schools maintain their computers and related equipment, (and therefore increase student’s everyday access to computers) PEP will introduce Student Support Technician Clubs (SSTC). The SSTC teams will be made of 7 th and 8 th grade students who will be monitored and managed by a School Technology Committee. At the end of 7 th grade, the students will pick new SSTC members from the finishing 6 th graders. Thus, the system will be self generating and the SSTC’s will always have new members.

During the next 5 years the ICT component will also support the development, within Macedonia, of digital content for primary education. The focus will be on Math and Science, but content will be created across the curriculum. This will enable students to benefit from modern technology in all subjects.

Within its own Training Center, PEP will showcase the latest educational products. In order to assist the MoES and the municipalities in making informed choices about the procurement and deployment of ICTs, PEP will introduce a variety of ICT solutions to Macedonian primary schools, in the form of:

  • Hardware
  • Operating systems
  • Software
  • Peripherals

PEP will demonstrate their use in delivering the primary curriculum and train teachers.

Knowing how to operate a computer is one thing. Knowing how to use to it to create learning experiences that promote thinking skills among students is totally different. PEP will work with Macedonian teachers, administrators and other stakeholders to develop a teacher training curriculum that provides teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to use ICTs effectively in the classroom.
