PEP welcomes 123 New Schools to its Mathematics and Science Component

During March 2008, 123 additional primary schools were selected for involvement in the second phase of the PEP Component ‘Improving Mathematics and Science Education’.
The selection of the schools was made in accordance with agreed criteria (number of mathematics and science teachers, availability and level of equipment in school labs, regional spread and language of instruction). This ensures that all regions and languages are fairly represented. The 123 selected schools from the second phase are grouped around the 25 Phase 1 schools to form clusters at a regional level where new teaching and learning practices are being implemented following PEP teacher training courses.
The teacher training for Phase 2 schools will be organized on a regional level and will start in May.
PEP has agreed with the Ministry of Education that all primary schools will receive support from its Mathematics and Science Component during the project. The third phase is due to begin before the end of 2008.
