50 New Schools Accepted in PEP’s Assessment Component

During November – December 2007, 110 primary schools applied for involvement in the second phase of the PEP Component Improving School – Based Assessment.

In Phase 1, 10 schools were involved. We originally intended to increase this to 40, but because of the great interest expressed, this number will now be increased to 60. In February, 2008, the extended list of schools was approved by the Assessment Working Group.

The selection of the schools was made in accordance with agreed criteria. By increasing the number of schools for 2nd phase, it was ensured that all schools which attained high scores are involved, while taking into consideration an equitable geographical spread and fair representation of schools by language of instruction. The schools from the second phase are grouped around the Phase 1 schools to form clusters where new assessment practices are taking place.
