PEP SCHOOLS GO GREEN


From June 1, 2008, PEP partnered with USAID’s Plastic Recycling Project to establish 5 pilot ‘Green Schools’. The ‘Green Schools’ will work to:

  1. raise the environmental awareness of the children, the teachers and the wider community,

  2. consider the environmental issues in the school polices,

  3. introduce environmental education for the children in the school, and

  4. organize and implement environmental projects in the school and in the communit

The pilot phase will result in a comprehensive Green School methodology adjusted to the local needs of the school, which can be further used for replication in other schools in Macedonia.
During the summer period, teachers in the schools have been informed and trained. In September, green school promotion and training activities for the students began. The students have established Green Clubs and do extracurricular activities in order to:

  1. promote environmental-friendly behaviors and lifestyles among the students, the school staff and the wider community

  2. actively seeks for ways to reduce school’s negative impact on the environment

  3. Initiate environmental actions in the school and in the community

The pilot schools involved in the Green Schools program are:

  1. Grigor Prlicev Primary School - Ohrid

  2. Drita Primary School – Rasce

  3. Mirce Acev Primary School – Gjorce Petrov

  4. Goce Delcev Primary School – Negotino

  5. Vidoe Podgorec Primary School - Strumica
