Sustaining School Change – Conference for Facilitators

The Conference for facilitators - Sustaining School Change, organized by PEP, was held on June 22, 2010 in Skopje.

During the conference, PEP awarded the primary school teachers and BDE advisors as PEP learning facilitators who contributed in assisting the project in the process of improving the quality of PEP’s professional development activities and delivering of the workshops. These learning facilitators also provide follow-up support in schools after the teachers have attended training workshops.

At the conference there were representatives from USAID and around 120 learning facilitators. There were also round table discussions moderated by the facilitators selected by their groups. The participants discussed successes and constrains experienced during their involvement in the PEP intervention activities and proposed recommendations for sustainable support to teachers in their professional development.

Keith Prenton, PEP Chief of Party, invited the component leaders to present the contribution of the project programs in professional development program in the areas of School Renovations, Math and Science, ICT, Assessment and Workforce Development. At the end of their presentations, Keith Prenton emphasized the importance of in-school professional development activities as a continuous and collaborative process in “bridging the gap” between attending a training course and implementing new skills in the classroom.

During the last session learning facilitators worked on actions and recommendations for future in-school professional development activities that can promote changes and support ongoing improvements in teachers’ practice and development of 21st century workforce skills in students.
