Student Science Clubs boost interest in Science
During March, the PEP M&S component invited schools to establish ‘Student Science Clubs’. These clubs, help improve student grades and motivate them to continue their education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Thirty clubs led by 44 teachers from 22 primary schools were formed and in the last month they participated in an Exhibition organized by PEP.
The exhibitions of projects made by Student Science Club members
were held in Veles, Bitola and Skopje. The host schools were ‘Blaze Koneski’ in Veles and ‘Kliment Ohridski’ and Bitola. The event in Skopje was organized in the Cinematheque Macedonia.
“We want to inspire primary students by introducing them to interesting and exciting activities that promote lifelong exploration in the field of science,” said PEP Chief of Party, Keith Prenton. “Science clubs allow students to explore, investigate, and discover their world in a more relaxed learning environment than the traditional classroom setting.”
Over 200 people attended each of the exhibitions, including teachers, students, parents, school directors, education advisors and inspectors.
“The projects that we saw in the exhibitions show that the students have expanded and deepened the knowledge and experience they have acquired in math, physics, chemistry, biology and geography,” said USAID Senior Education Project Specialist, Lela Jakovlevska.
PEP awarded certificates to all the teachers and students involved in the Student Science Clubs.
