ThinkQuest lifts up the creativity and inspiration of the students and teachers from ‘Goce Delcev’ primary school in Bitola

The Oracle Education Foundation (OEF) and Primary Education Project have joined forces to help Macedonian students develop vital skills for work and life. Both parties organized trainings for ThinkQuest use. Later on, a Scaffolding Project was placed on the ThinkQuest portal, which helped primary teachers to learn methodology for preparing different projects and problem solving tasks that can motivate and inspire the students and at the same time be fun and useful.

Following the instructions and the knowledge gained from the trainings, the teachers and students from PS ‘Goce Delcev’ in Bitola developed a career brochure while following the given steps. In this project, 18 students from different classes were involved. They carried out several interviews with many experts specialized in different professions (lawyers, archeologists, engineers, economists, doctors, architects, singers), they investigated and searched various media and other social informative networks. Some of the students even worked and wrote in English. Lastly, a group of students compiled all the data and materials and created a web page.

While working on this project, the students incorporated knowledge of a number of school subjects: Informatics, English language, Macedonian language and Arts. But, more importantly, they developed new skills: how to make an interview, how to make a good presentation, how to investigate on different topics, how to work in a team, how to prepare an action plan etc.

“During the whole process there was very positive and inspirational working atmosphere. The English language teacher, Saska Delova and the Art teacher, Kristina Stojanova, also led the teams and gave only a few instructions, while the hard-working and motivated students competed between themselves which team will provide more information, will finish the job faster and in a more creative way.”, said Violeta Kostova, Informatics teacher in PS ‘Goce Delcev’, Bitola.

The final result was obviously a huge success: now, the school ‘Goce Delcev’ from Bitola has its own career brochure as a guide for the students and their parents, has its own web page, has many connections with other relevant institutions to work with, and has the energy and experience for other similar projects and accomplishments.
