Primary School “Sande Sterjoski” from Kicevo
gave a helping hand to Japan
In the frames of the implemented trainings and mentoring meetings tailored to strengthening the school boards’ capacities and organized by PEP in partnership with the “Step by step” foundation, the School Board from
PS “Sande Sterjoski” – Kicevo in the period between April 30th and May 6th, organized the Solidarity week for Japan.
This idea emerged during a joint meeting of the school board’s members, the school director and the municipal representative responsible for education. The aim was to collect money, which will be donated for the Japanese children who suffered from the recent natural disaster in Japan. The idea was unanimously accepted by the School Council, the School Association of Children and the Parents Council. Soon, during a one-week period, the following activities, under the slogan “Give a hand to Japan” were organized:
- On April 30th – international karate tournament, which was followed by the students, parents and teachers from PS “Sande Sterjoski”;
- On May 4th and 5th – football tournament in which 8 sport teams with students from different nationalities participated;
- On May 5th – a cartoon projection for the lower grade students was held. The same day, the upper grade teachers together with the parents and students organized sale stands in the center of the town and presented hand made products crafted by the students. The stands were massively visited by the Kicevo citizens.
The funds from the sale of the tickets of all the organized events and the selling exhibition were aimed for the Japanese students.
The main event was organized in the House of culture in Kicevo and was attended by around 500 students, teachers and parents. The students sent a message of solidarity and support for the Japanese children in five different languages. An entertainment show prepared by the students from Macedonian, Albanian and Turkish classes followed, along with exhibition of drawings and children’s hand made products. The funds from the sale were also aimed for the Japanese children.
On that occasion, the school director Lulzim Mehmedi in front of the present guests stressed out: “Today we are giving our hand to Japan, and we want to show that even if this is a symbolical gesture, our hearts are big and sympathetic for the people in Japan.”
During this whole week there was a great dedication and all 1500 students, 150 employees and hundreds of parents from the school were involved. This week the students, parents and teachers from this school succeed to collect around 1,100 EUR. This might look like a symbolical amount, but having in mind the aim of the action, it’s really big!
