Grade 6 Students develop a Pythagoras Teaching Resource
David Malinkovski and Nikola Torbovski, from the the primary school “11th of October” in Skopje, have developed an animation for teaching Pythagoras Theorem with support from their ICT teacher, Irina Ivanova.
The animation was the idea of mathematics teacher, Jordan Dudeski, who wanted to find an interesting way to teach Pythagoras Theorem to his 7th year class. Jordan has also worked with his students, with Pythagoras and the schools music teacher, Zvonimir Atanasov, to compose a song.
In addition, Jordan organized a lesson, observed by PEP staff, where his students used mathematical equipment and card, in groups, to discover if Pythagoras’s theorem worked in practice
These hands-on activities, along with the song and the animation showed that Math
lessons can be fun. The students gave all their effort and attention and enjoyed their work saying that this method of improving their mathematics skills is very helpful for them, and they will never forget Pythagoras theorem.
Jordan explained to PEP staff, “It is amazing to see how motivated the students are. Through this kind of work, they apply their theoretical knowledge into practice and learn new things easily.”
Click here and the students from Primary school “11th of October” in Skopje will help you to learn Pythagoras’s theorem.
PEP’s 'Math and Science' component is promoting practical hands-on mind-on activities as the best way to learn mathematics. They make the students familiar with important mathematics concepts in a way that is direct and interesting for their age.
PEP is looking forward to receiving more great ideas from teachers and students – If you have some, send them to Anica Aleksova aaleksova@pep.org.mk or Igor Sasanski isasanski@pep.org.mk …
