School students use ICT to promote local Food Fair
The Caska region, is a rural area right in the centre of Macedonia. Here, in the village Teovo, the students from the “Petre Pop Arsov’ primary school used ICT to promote a local Food Fair. The main aim of the fair was to promote the local farmers, the local specialties, traditional uniforms and hand-crafted items from the surrounding villages.
This is the third time that the healthy food fair “Closer to nature” was organized in this municipality. In order to publicize the event, municipal officials approached the school and asked for help in the promotional part of the event. On the weekend of the 13th, 14th and 15th of March, student members of the school’s Student Support Technician Club (SSTC) worked hard in the IT lab to prepare flyers, business cards, labels, flags and a multimedia CD for the municipality. A bunch of the brand new promotional materials for the region, municipality, and the whole community made by the students, were introduced and presented to the participants. The new communication materials promoted the beauty of the region, its natural and historical values, the local healthy food production and the partnership between the primary school and the municipality. This joint project of the municipality and the primary school Petre Pop Arsov is an outstanding example on how to leverage available resources, emerging technology, and local assets to build the capacity of the local community.
“The students were motivated to show their knowledge in using ICT. This was the first time someone asked them to help and to count on them in such an important event for the community. Having in mind that the request came from the municipality, you can imagine how proud they were while doing this!” said Slavica Karbeva, the IT teacher in charge of the SSTC. Additional support to the students was given by the principal of the school Nina Markova, Lidija Pljakova and Dime Angelov from the municipality of Chaska and Hristaki Kuzmanovski from Krusevo.
The equipment students used to create the products was donated by the Primary Education Project.
