A Vratnica School Demonstrates Modern Education Practices

Innovations implemented as part of the PEP Project in “Simce Nastovski” Primary School, Vratnica, were publicly presented at the school’s patron celebration.

Teachers reported that a code of ethics in assessment has been developed and accepted by students, teachers and parents. Common criteria for assessment of student achievements were agreed in the school and new assessment strategies have been applied. “Twelve case studies were prepared by the teachers showing that new approaches have been effective. Students are included in the process of assessment leading to improved learning”, stressed Branka Markovic, assessment coordinator at the school.

Quiz contest

New approaches in using student-centered methodologies in math and science were demonstrated by students from lower and upper primary. Teachers pointed out that these approaches result in better understanding of math and science concepts and application in everyday situations.

PEP certificates were presented to 19 teachers of the school in an official ceremony.

 

The audience was informed that PEP ICT in Education activities are in the course of implementation. The school is being equipped with computers and in-service training of teachers on the use of Edubuntu and implementing ICT in teaching will follow.

The presentation concluded with the question: - Why do we need school projects? And with the answer: - to fulfill our mission – to have a modern school where students would acquire applicable knowledge through introducing cabinet teaching practice and by using contemporary strategies and learning methods, as well as school based assessment of student achievements.

The celebrations were shown on the “KISS” – Tetovo local television, regional news, and as a special programme called “Tutti Kids”.
