First PEP Phase 4 MOUs signed!
USAID/PEP Renovations Component officially inaugurated Phase 4 in September 2009. All municipalities and schools in Macedonia were given chance to submit their application packages. Ren
ovations Working Group-consist from experts from the education area- reviewed all submitted application packages (110 packages from 70 municipalities) and selected 23 schools that will be renovated till September 2010. A total of 12,270 students and teachers will benefit from these renovations. Windows replacement is considered as most necessary by the schools and municipalities, but also there will be roof reconstructions, electrical installation and toilets renovations. 358 classrooms will be renovated with the budget from USAID/PEP, cost-share from Municipalities and the schools.
The first Memorandums of understanding were entered into on 29th December 2009 in Tetovo, Kisela Voda and Gevgelija.
The Memorandum of Understanding in Tetovo was signed by and between USAID/Academy of Educational Development (AED)-PEP, Municipality of Tetovo and Primary School “Kiril and Metodij”. The Memorandum was sign in the Mayor’s office in presence of Alex Woods – USAID Education Director, Keith Prenton-USAID/PEP COP, Sadi Bexheti - the Mayor of Tetovo and Nusret Sulejmani - Director of the school. PEP is providing funds for replacement of 35 old, broken windows with new aluminum windows. The Municipality of Tetovo provided the technical design for the project and will provide funds for replacement of the remaining windows in the school. Parents and teachers from P.S.”Kiril and Metodij” will dismantle the existing wooden windows and sto
re them in the designated area in the school building.
AED, the municipality of Kisela Voda and Primary School “Kiril Pejcinovic” share a mutual interest to provide support in improving the quality of education and providing better learning environment in the Primary School “Kiril Pejcinovic” in Kisela Voda. The Mayor of this municipality – Marjan Gjorchev and USAID’s PEP COP – Keith Prenton signed a Memorandum of Understanding and arrange to replace 30 old wooden windows with new aluminum energy efficient windows.
Mayor of Gevgelija was host for the signing the Memorandum between AED, the Municipality of Gevgelija and the Director of the school “Krste Petkov Misirkov”. PEP will provide funds for replacement of 37 windows. The Municipality and the school will provide funds for replacement of the remaining windows in the school.
The beneficiaries of the activities pursued under these MOUs are 2410 direct beneficiaries from the schools (students, teachers and supporting staff) and the next generations that will learn in that schools.
