PEP’s Teacher Certification Procedure Agreed!

In collaboration with advisors from the BDE, PEP has finalized its teacher certification procedure. The purpose of the certification is to provide recognition that teachers are implementing the new skills and knowledge gained from PEP training activities. PEP certification should be part of a collaborative, collegial and supportive process which encourages teachers to work together to improve their teaching practice.

The pedagogues or psychologists and PEP school team have the main role in implementing the certification procedure while the role of BDE advisors is to support the PEP school team thus improving the teachers’ professional development, the quality of the teaching process and student achievement.

PEP has organized workshops to introduce schools to the certification procedure and to equip them with the skills to implement the procedure in their schools.

The document for certification includes three parts:

  1. Framework for the PEP certification procedure;
  2. Guidance and criteria of certification for each component adjusted to the training goals and content;
  3. Evaluation Forms and Confirmation Forms for each component training program.

There is also an additional document providing detailed indicators for self-evaluation that are related with lesson planning, effective teaching and formative assessment.

The certification process in schools includes the following five phases:

  1. The development of a Professional Portfolio by the teacher;
  2. Observation by a senior colleague of a lesson given by the teacher;
  3. Individual peer review of the teacher’s portfolio;
  4. Formal evaluation of the Teacher Portfolio;
  5. Delivery of the certificate to the teachers.
