PEP and Microsoft promote the use of new technology in education

On 8th and 9th May 2009, in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation’s “Partners in Learning” program, PEP organized a booth to promote its technology in education activities at the biggest educational fair in Macedonia, the “Education Rendezvous 2009”.

The annual fair is organized by the student organization, MASSUM with assistance from the MoES. Participants in the event include secondary schools recruiting 8th grade students; university faculties recruiting high school students; school companies; NGO’s, and businesses.  Students compete in a variety of contests relating to career development like marketing plan, job interview, public speaking, best school video, best school web page etc.  It gives opportunities to students to demonstrate and share their knowledge, skills and abilities in various fields.
Students from PEP pilot schools and partner organizations like ATTE, IEEE and BEST gave demonstrations of control technology and robotics to excited students and interested members of the public.

PEP & Microsoft also promoted good use of new technology and ICT in education by organizing competitions to find:

  1. The Best School Promotional Video using Windows Movie Maker - Participation in this competition helped students to develop and enhance their skills and abilities for producing promotional videos.

  2. The Best school web-site - Participation in this competition helped students to develop and enhance their skills and abilities for web design and also helped schools to promote their educational programs and activities. The winning website, from Goso Vikentiev School, in Kocani, can be found at:   www.gvko.edu.mk

The Education Rendezvous also provided an opportunity for PEP to begin its Career Information program. About 50 Secondary Vocational Schools from all vocational clusters (economics, agricultural, textile, medical, electro technical, mechanical etc) organized promotional booths and presented their educational programs and activities. It was a great opportunity for 8th grade students from PEP’s workforce development pilot primary schools to get direct information about different vocational options for continuing of their education.
