Latest Generation Laptops come to two Macedonian Schools
Following a successful pilot of their Classmate laptops by USAID’s Primary Education Project (PEP), which began in 2007, INTEL Corporation has now donated an additional 15 of the latest generation Classmate laptops to the schools involved.
The new laptops, aimed at younger students, have improved performance, more memory, larger screens and integrated webcams.
During the 2007/2008 school year, PEP received a donation of 16 older versions of the Classmate laptop computers from INTEL. Two schools: “Toli Zordumis”, from the village Rezanovce, and “ Sv Kliment Ohridski”, from the village Draslajca, were selected to pilot this innovative solution. Both schools have a small number of students, coming from rural areas, who had no experience with computers.
During the pilot, both schools were closely monitored by PEP and provided with support in the use of the computers in the classroom. The teachers received training and technical assistance to help them integrate the technology in the classroom. The students were very pleased with the laptops. With their help, they managed to cover most subjects in the curriculum using the “ToolKid” software, and also through researching on the internet. The students worked both individually and in pairs.
With their new computers they will be able to do even more!
