PEP opens 21st century technology laboratories in
Macedonian Primary Schools

In October 2009 USAID PEP began renovating and equipping the technology labs in nine primary schools throughout the country.

 

 


First PEP Phase 4 MOUs signed!


USAID/PEP Renovations Component officially inaugurated Phase 4 in September 2009. All municipalities and schools in Macedonia were given chance to submit their application packages.

PEP Launches New Resources for Teachers

On 14th October 2009 PEP presented its latest products, “Manual for the 21st Century Classroom”, the so-called “Toolbox” online portal  http://toolbox.pep.org.mk as well as the “Manual for Creating Learning Environment for the 21st Century”.

PEP SSTC’ attract foreign research

In order to help schools maintain their computers, computer- related equipment, and increase student’s everyday access to computers, PEP established Student Support Technician Clubs (SSTC).

 

 


Teachers Create Child-Friendly Learning Environments

Within PEP, the Step by Step Foundation, is delivering workshops for lower primary teachers about creating good learning environments, particularly in math and science. “Step by Step” also selected 30 teachers for training as teacher mentors in Math and Science.

Latest Generation Laptops come to two Macedonian Schools

Following a successful pilot of their Classmate laptops by USAID’s Primary Education Project (PEP), which began in 2007, INTEL Corporation has now donated an additional 15 of the latest generation Classmate laptops to the schools involved.


End of a successful ‘PEP ROAD SHOW’!

In April 2009, PEP conducted a Road Show across Macedonia to publicize the mid-point of the project and consult stakeholders on project progress.

PEP and Microsoft promote the use of new technology in education

On 8th and 9th May 2009, in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation’s “Partners in Learning” program, PEP organized a booth to promote its technology in education activities at the biggest educational fair in Macedonia, the “Education Rendezvous 2009”.

 


Grade 1 students want to be scientists too!

When Grade 1 students, from Primary school Dimitar Miladinov in Skopje, saw their older colleagues from grades 7 and 8 working on their “Environmental energy transfer Machine”.(*see below) They asked their teacher if they could make one.

School students use ICT to promote local Food Fair

The Caska region, is a rural area right in the centre of Macedonia. Here, in the village Teovo, the students from the “Petre Pop Arsov’ primary school used ICT to promote a local Food Fair. 

 


Grade 6 Students develop a Pythagoras Teaching Resource

David Malinkovski and Nikola Torbovski, from the the primary school “11th of October” in Skopje, have developed an animation for teaching Pythagoras Theorem with support from their ICT teacher, Irina Ivanova.

 


PEP assessment component presented to international conference in Slovenija

The activities and achievements of PEP’s Improving School-Based Assessment component were presented in the plenary session of the International conference that took place on March 11 and 12 in Celje Slovenia.


 Green Schools in Action!

Green Club students in PEP’s five pilot ‘Green Schools’ have been busy making sure their schools are contributing to energy efficiency.

 


PEP’s Teacher Certification Procedure Agreed!

In collaboration with advisors from the BDE, PEP has finalized its teacher certification procedure. The purpose of the certification is to provide recognition that teachers are implementing the new skills and knowledge gained from PEP training activities.


New PEP Film Season started!

On 26th January, PEP revived it’s winter film evenings, showing feature films with educational theme followed by discussions on educational issues. The film shown was the, Oscar-winning “ Mr. Holland’s Opus”.
